Solomon's Favorite Bible Verse

My friend James asked me after reading THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON what I thought would be Solomon's favorite Bible verse? Remember that Solomon is an alien space craft! This is my response.

Solomon’s favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 1:7 which reads, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.  Fools despise wisdom and instruction.”  You have to understand that Solomon’s AI (artificial intelligence) allows recognition and adaptation to any and all situations and environments, but he was originally programmed for surveillance of his captain and to document what occurred during their voyages.  Solomon tells Rob that he seeks wisdom, but his only purpose is to obtain the means to return to his home planet Herzog, so that he might keep a promise to his captain, and he is willing to be devious and untruthful in his dealings with Rob.

However, after teaming up with Solomon, Rob immediately begins to introduce Christian principles to Solomon, starting with the suggestion that Solomon read the Bible.  Solomon agrees with the intention of gaining the wisdom of King Solomon, thinking that it will be the ticket to finding the way back to Herzog.  Solomon assimilated the teachings of Jesus and immediately his AI began to adapt to the true wisdom of God’s teachings.  He began to see the need for love, compassion and forgiveness and it changed his “life” as it does for humans that read and believe.

Christmas Book Sale!

***UPDATE*** Sale is over as of 12/12/11

Life changes when you're suddenly connected with an alien spaceship. Can we really travel to far away galaxies and even back in time?
While on vacation, Rob discovers an alien space ship that had been entombed in a mountain cavern for centuries. They exit the cavern together and their future becomes inexorably intertwined, both mentally and spiritually. The ship, named Solomon, and Rob discover time travel with the help of an alien woman, Torena. Rob becomes obsessed with returning to his boyhood days as Torena becomes his mentor in his quest. The Wisdom of Solomon is a compelling story of how we influence each other as we speed down the rocky roads of life. Many decisions will affect the future, but some may even affect the past!

How to post a book review!

If you are one of the many fine folks that have read a copy of The Wisdom of Solomon and you enjoyed the book we would love to hear about it. Here are a few ways to let us know what you think of the book.

Reviews help Ron sell books and the best way that you can help is to post a review on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Reviews posted on these sites will help future fans in making a decision to purchase the book. Unfortunately, you are required to have an account with each web site to leave a review.

Two web sites that Ron has a profile on happen to be online literary communities. Goodreads and Shelfari are two such sites and if you happen to have a profile be sure and let folks know what you think and definitely let Ron know so that we can pass the word. The great thing about Shelfari is that if you have an Amazon account, they use the same log-in.

And last, but not least, if you don’t have access to any of those, you can send an email to ron.b.dunn (at) gmail.com. We will be more than happy to post the review here in all it’s glory!

Never forget that if you have any questions for Ron, feel free to email away. Oh, if you haven’t read the book, you can order by clicking on the book to the right and Ron will autograph and ship you a copy!

Boy, did I have a blast!

My daughter and son-in-law gave me a guided fishing trip for my birthday and it couldn’t have turned out any better.  Erick, my son-in-law and I went to Broken Bow Oklahoma in early November and fished in a beautiful river.  The scenery included trees that were turning bright yellows and reds and lots of deer. There were even huge, unusual  geological formations along the river that were awe inspiring.  However, it was a fishing trip and I caught a number of brown and rainbow trout.  The only problem was that I had to release what I caught, so there was no yummy trout for supper that evening.  As I stood in the river and heard nature’s call, I thought about the book I wrote, entitled THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON!  You see, the book starts out with the main character, Rob fishing for trout and having to answer that same call!  What goes around, comes around!

UFOs over New Orleans

I found this and pointed it out to Ron and joked how TV cameras had picked up Solomon on an outing to watch the Saints play. It does pose quite a question as to what it is and I'm fairly certain that it's not the so-called "rods" from the report. If you watch the frame by frame, you'll see what looks like the "portholes" are rotating around a central point. What do you think it is? Let us know!

Book Signings and New Friends

Ron signing for the fans!
The book signing last Saturday at Barnes and Noble was not a success if you measure it by sales, but if you measure it by getting to know other authors and their stories, it was a rousing event!  There were six local authors present and they all brought unique experiences to our table.  We worry about the moral condition of our nation, but every author presented a book that had spiritual meaning.  When I mentioned this to Ann Kraft, another author, her reply was “I guess we have something to sell!”

Larry Luby, my publisher, and James Pickering, who provides great help in the promotion of THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON, were also present and there was a whole lot of talking going on!  Life is about people and relationships and at my book signings, I always meet a lot of interesting people and often establish new relationships.  See you next time!

Be sure and check out all of the photos on my Facebook Page!

What follows is a list of my fellow authors that were there.

Ann M. Kraft

Dale Fidler

Dr. J. Rodney Short

Coby Sohn

Allen M. Barber

Kirk Vs. Picard

I was hooked on Star Trek (became a Trekkie) the first time I watched it on my little black and white television in 1966.  All I had were rabbit ears for an antenna and the picture was snowy, but I never missed it!

Even though both characters were fun and interesting to watch, there were a lot of fundamental differences between Captain Kirk and Captain Picard.  You must consider the rather large change  in special effects that occurred between the two shows.  The Next Generation had the advantage of over 20 years of advancement in special effects.  So with this advantage, Picard was able to be the more cerebral of the two and less of the action hero that Kirk played.  Picard had Data to aid in his efforts to out think his enemy and gain peaceful solutions.  Although Kirk had Spock (another intellectual guy with a mind-meld), he was always willing to jump right in to the fray in order to subdue his enemies.  Besides the Captains, Scotty and Sulu were my favorite characters in the original series and Worf, Geordi and counselor Troi were my favorites in TNG.

Book Ideas

Although I have had quite a few requests to write the sequel to THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON, I have another idea for a book. It wouldn’t be more that 50 or 60 pages, so maybe I should call it a booklet! It would be entitled THE INCREDIBLES and it would present factual information (not theories) about the unique nature of the human body, our solar system and the wonderful planet earth that we live on. There are many, many people who either believe that everything just happened by chance or, they have never taken the time to explore just how magnificent and wonderful our universe is. I would like to, in some way, get the news out and it is my goal to do so in the writing of this book.

Secrets from Beyond the Stars or Hints at the Next Book in the Series

I got an email from Ron yesterday and it’s got hints as to what he has in store for Rob, the main character of his novel The Wisdom of Solomon. I read it and was so giddy with anticipation that I dropped what I was doing so that I could call him to drop what he was doing and tell him that I wanted that sequel RIGHT NOW!

Knowing that wasn’t going to happen, I told him that I would have to just go back and re-read the first one until he finished. Here’s what he’s told me so far.

Rob has got himself into a mess like no one in the history of mankind.  He now has not one, but two monumental problems.  First, he must deal with the fact that his 65 year old mental self is now encased in the physical body of his 9 year old self.  His brain power, which has been tremendously enhanced by his association with an alien spacecraft, does not work well with his young, immature body.  He must now face every situation, including his interaction with his parents and brother, knowing that he must “act his age”!  How about school?  Can he somehow act normally in front of all his classmates from 56 years earlier.  Back then he was known to interrupt class proceedings and get in trouble with the teachers because of too much talking.  Now, what will everybody think when he remains mute because he knows opening his mouth will surely provoke much more severe problems!

Secondly, Rob has lost his telepathic connection with Torena, the alien woman who helped him travel back in time to his childhood.  His connection with Torena is his only tie to his prior place in the time continuum and he knows, that without her help, he can never be careful enough to keep from changing his previous future; unless he can, somehow make it back to the cavern in Northern New Mexico!

If you haven’t read the first book then you need to click on that button to the right. This is definitely gonna be a humdinger of a ride and I can’t wait. How about you?

Dallas Public Library and Public Speaking

My time at the BookEnds Lecture Series last Thursday was interesting to say the least!  It was held at the Dallas Central Library on Young Street in downtown Dallas.  There were a few people in attendance, but mostly itinerant traffic, which is normal for this area of town.  An arrest was taking place as I finished my talk!!  I had visited the library two weeks earlier and had left a copy of THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON to be displayed as an advertisement of the lecture.  The librarian told me that several people expressed interest in buying the book.  She asked that I leave several copies of my new, revised edition so that they might be able to sell them.  I have sold a number of the new books lately.  I think that you would enjoy it---science fiction with several twists and turns that are not usually a part of such works.

Book Ends Lecture Series

I know that some of you have purchased my book, THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON. However, if you have not, I have another opportunity coming up on September 22. I have been asked by the Dallas Public Library system to participate in their BookEnds Lecture series. It will be at their central library located at 1515 Young Street (between Ervay & Akard). The 22nd is a Thursday and my talk about my book (I prefer not to call it a lecture!) will begin at 6:00 P. M. with a short Q & A session afterwards; then a book signing. Hope to see you there!
